May Day 2026, National Police Deploy 6,051 Personnel
SUARA NEGERI | JAKARTA — 6,051 personnel from the National Police, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and regional government personnel provided security for the celebration of International Workers' Day, or May Day 2026, at the National Monument (Monas) area.
Approximately 230,000 workers from various labor unions crowded the Monas Cup area in Gambir, Central Jakarta, on Friday (May 1, 2026).
Several high-ranking state officials attended the event, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. Also in attendance were heads of high-ranking state institutions, cabinet ministers, and national labor union figures.
From early morning, workers began arriving at the location to participate in a series of activities, which included musical entertainment, door prizes, food packages, and speeches from union leaders. The President also took the time to greet the workers and deliver remarks.
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung, stated that his team was implementing maximum security to ensure the event ran safely and orderly.
"We are monitoring and providing security for the 2026 May Day activities at Monas, involving 6,051 joint personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Transportation Agency (Dishub), and the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP)," Reynold said in his statement.
He added that until the President arrived at the location at around 8:42 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) and left the main stage at around 10:05 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB), the situation was observed to be safe and conducive without any significant disturbances.
"Thank God, the entire series of activities proceeded safely and orderly. We continued to maintain security until the event concluded to ensure the public felt comfortable," he continued.
The 2026 May Day celebrations provided an opportunity for workers to express their aspirations and strengthen solidarity, while maintaining a conducive public order and security situation in the capital. (hms/gus)
