Prabowo Corrects Potential Conflicts of Interest in the National Police

SUARA NEGERI | JAKARTA — President Prabowo Subianto's decision to limit positions held by National Police officers outside the police force has garnered widespread attention.

This statement was made by the Chairman of the Commission for the Acceleration of Police Reform, Jimly Asshiddiqie, after a meeting at the Merdeka Palace.

Intelligence and geopolitical observer Amir Hamzah sees a much deeper strategic dimension to the restrictions on positions held by National Police officers outside the police force.

"This step cannot be read simply as an administrative reform, but rather part of a broader plan to restructure state power during the Prabowo administration," Amir said, as quoted on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

In his intelligence analysis, Amir assessed that the restrictions on positions held by National Police officers outside the police force are a response to the phenomenon of overreach by security forces within the civilian bureaucracy.

To date, the lack of clear limits has allowed National Police officers to occupy various strategic positions in ministries, state-owned enterprises, and even independent institutions.

"From an intelligence perspective, this is a correction to the potential for conflicts of interest that have been ignored," Amir said.

However, he warned that this policy also has the potential to become a tool for consolidating power. By restricting the police's freedom of movement outside the institution, the President indirectly controls the distribution of power within the country.
