Lemkapi Praises Police Performance in Securing May Day 2026
SUARA NEGERI | JAKARTA — The Indonesian Police Strategic Studies Institute (Lemkapi) commended the National Police for their performance in securing the 2026 International Workers' Day, or May Day, commemoration held in Jakarta and several other major cities in a safe and conducive manner.
Lemkapi Executive Director, Edi Hasibuan, assessed that the successful security measures were due to the preparedness and strategies developed by the National Police long before the event.
"We commend the performance of the National Police Chief and all regional police officers who succeeded in ensuring the May Day commemoration ran peacefully and conducively," said Edi in Jakarta on Saturday (May 2, 2026).
According to the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) member for the 2012–2016 period, the National Police have taken anticipatory measures by establishing good communication with labor leaders, including through a meeting between National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya ahead of May Day at the National Monument (Monas).
He emphasized that synergy between security forces, relevant agencies, and the support of workers were crucial factors in creating a safe and conducive environment during the May Day commemoration.
"Thanks to the hard work of all levels of the National Police and relevant agencies, as well as the support of workers, the May Day commemoration was very safe, peaceful, and conducive," he said. (gus)
