Pramono Appreciates Munjirin's Initiative
SUARA NEGERI | JAKARTA — East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin's efforts to reduce the number of brawls through a sports approach are beginning to show positive results.
The idea of building a boxing arena and skatepark under the Susukan-Ciracas flyover officially received the full support of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung on Monday (May 18, 2026).
The inauguration of these sports facilities is part of the East Jakarta City Government's strategic move to transform brawl-prone areas into productive, achievement-oriented youth development spaces.
Governor Pramono Anung expressed his appreciation for Munjirin's initiative, which he considered successful in developing a persuasive approach with youth groups in East Jakarta. From dialogues with the mayor and several youth communities, he observed a decrease in the intensity of brawls in several areas.
"More or less like this. Hopefully, it will benefit young people in East Jakarta, channeling their energy through places like this, making them more productive. There will be no more brawls, fewer street fights, and hopefully, they can get involved in protecting Jakarta," he said.
The success of the sports arena even prompted the Governor to plan to build a similar facility in the Kampung Melayu area to expand youth development in other vulnerable areas in East Jakarta.
Munjirin explained that the idea for the boxing ring emerged from a discussion with a youth forum in late December 2025. Based on the various input received, he chose the sports arena as a concrete solution rather than a purely educational approach.
According to him, the area under the Susukan-Ciracas flyover was chosen because it was previously known as a youth gathering place prone to conflict and brawls. (Jeane Patikawa)
