Karanganyar Steps Up Fish Consumption Campaign to Support Stunting Reduction
KARANGANYAR, Indonesia — The Karanganyar regency government has intensified its "Gemarikan" (Let's Eat Fish) campaign in Wonorejo Village, Central Java, to increase fish consumption and support efforts to reduce childhood stunting.
According to the Karanganyar Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Office, local fish consumption stands at 14 kilograms per capita annually, below Central Java's average of 16 kilograms and among the four lowest rates in the province.
The program targets families with stunted children and local women's groups (PKK) by distributing 100 fish-based food packages funded by the regional budget and 100 fish farming assistance packages supported by Bank Indonesia.
The aquaculture assistance includes circular fish ponds, 8,000 catfish fingerlings, 800 kilograms of feed, and 300 chili seedlings to strengthen household food security and help stabilize food prices.
Karanganyar Regent Rober Christanto said increasing fish consumption is essential to improving children's nutritional intake and reducing stunting, urging families to prepare more fish-based meals that appeal to children. (Harun)
