East Jakarta Administration Strengthens Media Partnership, Pushes Greater Public Information Transparency
SUARA NEGERI ■ JAKARTA — The East Jakarta City Administration strengthened its partnership with local media through a media gathering on Tuesday, underscoring the role of journalists in improving public access to government information and supporting transparent governance.
The event, held at Taman Cempaka in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, was attended by East Jakarta Mayor Munjirin, regional agency heads, district chiefs, and journalists from the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) East Jakarta Working Group and Pena Timur. The gathering opened with a tree-planting ceremony highlighting the administration's commitment to environmental conservation.
Mayor Munjirin said the media play a vital role in communicating government programs, policies, and development initiatives to the public.
"The good relationship we have built with the media must continue because, without the media, information about government programs, policies, and development would not reach the public quickly," he told participants.
He said the city administration planned to continue holding regular meetings with journalists to strengthen communication and cooperation.
Munjirin also called on regional government agencies to be more open in providing information to reporters, saying closer cooperation would help improve the delivery of accurate and accountable public information.
"We do not want any distance between the government and the media. The media are strategic partners in providing accurate, comprehensive, and accountable information to the public," he said.
Beyond media relations, Munjirin outlined several priorities of the East Jakarta administration, including better management of government-owned assets, improvements in public services, and efforts to strengthen food security.
He said the administration was conducting an inventory of government assets to ensure they were used more effectively, including previously unused land.
Munjirin also said East Jakarta had recently completed a corn harvest at 191 locations, including schools, parks, farmer groups, and other public areas, as part of its food security program.
In public services, he said East Jakarta had received an award from Indonesia's Ministry of Home Affairs for its performance in civil registration administration, describing the recognition as an incentive to further improve services for residents.
The event concluded with an interactive discussion between city officials and journalists, which the administration said was aimed at strengthening cooperation in delivering timely, accurate, and balanced public information. (Gusti Haes)
