Police Find Tourist's Cell Phone That Fell Overboard at Pari Island Pier

SUARA NEGERI | JAKARTA — South Thousand Islands Police personnel acted quickly and compassionately to assist a tourist who lost his cell phone after it fell overboard at Pari Island Pier, South Thousand Islands, yesterday.

The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB) as the KM Diamond 21 vessel was preparing to depart for Muara Angke Port, North Jakarta.

The victim, the owner of the cell phone, moved onto the boat without realizing his bag's zipper was open, causing the phone to fall into the sea.

Realizing his cell phone had fallen into the waters of the pier, the victim immediately shouted for help from the tour guide. As the boat had already begun to move away from the pier, the tour guide immediately reported the incident to members of the Pari Island Sub-Sector Police, who were providing pier security and public service.

Despite the busy pier with passenger and tourist boats, police officers responded quickly and responsibly to the report. The search was conducted carefully using diving methods around 4:00 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

Thanks to cooperation and a spirit of service to the community, two divers from the Pari Island Sub-Sector Police, along with one Fire Department officer, finally recovered the tourist's cellphone on the seabed near the pier. In fact, the phone was found to be working and usable.

The plan is to return the cellphone to its owner through the tour guide who accompanied the tourist during their stay on Pari Island.

The Thousand Islands Police Chief, Argadija Putra, expressed his appreciation for the alertness and concern of the personnel in the field in assisting the community and tourists.

"This is a form of humanitarian service from Polri members to the community. We will respond quickly to any report from residents, no matter how small. The presence of our officers in the field must truly benefit both the community and tourists," he said.

He added that the Thousand Islands Police will continue to prioritize responsive, professional, and humane service to create a sense of security and comfort in the Thousand Islands tourist area. (hm/Red)
