Prabowo: Indonesia has the potential to become the world's number one shrimp producer
SUARA NEGERI | KEBUMEN — President Prabowo Subianto conducted a shrimp harvest and inspected the sorting process at the Area-Based Shrimp Cultivation (BUBK) in Kebumen, Central Java, on Saturday (May 23, 2026).
In the 100-hectare area, President Prabowo directly inspected the vannamei shrimp harvest and the sorting process before marketing.
The President also inspected the cultivation area, which is being developed with a modern concept through an integrated management system, including intake channels, reservoir ponds, separate inlet and outlet channels, production ponds, a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), and other supporting facilities.
In his remarks, President Prabowo stated that he had personally witnessed the eighth shrimp harvest in the area.
The Head of State believes that Indonesia has a significant opportunity to become the world's number one shrimp producer.
"So it's very promising. I was just given a report that one hectare can produce 40 tons. 40 tons is extraordinary, isn't it? And the price is very good, 70,000 rupiah per kilo. That means 70 million rupiah per ton," said the President.
The Kebumen BUBK has a significant economic impact. With 206 ponds, this area can generate a production value of around IDR 67.2 billion per cycle, or potentially IDR 134.4 billion per year, while also employing hundreds of local workers.
President Prabowo also explained that the government is developing a similar, larger-scale project in Waingapu, East Sumba Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.
The Kebumen BUBK is expected to be a model for transforming traditional cultivation into a modern system based on technology and better environmental management.
"So this is very good, very productive. It can currently employ 650 local people, and we have already developed 2,000 hectares in Waingapu," added President Prabowo.
The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) is committed to supporting the government's strategic programs, including strengthening food self-sufficiency and developing the maritime and fisheries sector, through cross-sector synergy to improve public welfare and support the realization of Indonesia Emas 2045.
