German President Steinmeier Arrives in Jakarta, Meets Prabowo to Boost Indonesia-Germany Cooperation

SUARA NEGERI | JAKARTA — German President Frank Walter Steinmeier and Mrs. Elke Büdenbender paid a state visit to Indonesia on Monday (June 15, 2026).

The plane carrying President Steinmeier and his entourage landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta at approximately 9:20 a.m. Western Indonesian Time.

President Steinmeier was greeted by Indonesian Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and several officials from both countries.

Following the airport reception, President Steinmeier and his entourage proceeded directly to Merdeka Palace in Jakarta and were greeted by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The two leaders shook hands and then proceeded together to the front veranda of Merdeka Palace.

The state welcoming ceremony was solemn, beginning with the playing of the national anthems of both countries and accompanied by 21 cannon salutes.

After inspecting the honor guard, President Prabowo and President Steinmeier introduced each other's delegations.

The welcoming ceremony continued with the signing of the state guest book and a group photo session in the Credentials Room.

Afterward, President Steinmeier and President Prabowo held a one-on-one meeting to discuss various strategic issues and strengthen bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Germany.

In a joint press statement, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for President Steinmeier's state visit to Indonesia. The President considered the visit to be significant for the already strong relationship between the two countries. (gus)
