Karangasem Records 136 Dengue Cases, Health Officials Ramp Up Fogging Operations

SUARA NEGERI | BALI — Dengue fever (DHF) cases in Karangasem Regency have increased again. Several cases were reported in Amlapura City, Karangasem District, and several villages in Manggis District on Thursday (June 4, 2026).

In response to this situation, the Karangasem Regency Health Office continues to intensify fogging activities in areas where dengue cases have been detected and where they could potentially become breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

One fogging activity was carried out in Susuan Village, Karangasem Subdistrict. The fogging was carried out after a local resident was found to have contracted dengue fever.

During this activity, the Health Office deployed officers with three fogging units to conduct fogging from the point of zero cases to a certain radius.

The Fogging Supervisor of the Karangasem Health Office, I Ketut Pasek Adi Dwipayana, stated that fogging is being carried out as an effort to break the chain of dengue fever transmission in areas where cases have been detected.

"Fogging is carried out around the location of the case to kill adult mosquitoes that have the potential to transmit the dengue virus. However, this effort must be accompanied by community mosquito breeding grounds eradication for more effective results," said Pasek Adi Dwipayana.

Meanwhile, based on reports received by the Karangasem Health Office, there are currently quite a number of dengue fever patients undergoing treatment at the Karangasem Regional General Hospital and several private hospitals in Karangasem.

Data from the Karangasem Health Office indicates that there were 136 dengue fever cases from January to April 2026. Data for cases from May 2026 is still being compiled and has not yet been fully compiled.

Pasek Adi Dwipayana urged the public to remain vigilant and actively eradicate mosquito breeding sites independently through the 3M movement: emptying water reservoirs, tightly closing them, and burying or recycling used items that could potentially become mosquito breeding grounds. Furthermore, the public is advised to abatement water reservoirs.

With active community involvement, it is hoped that the spread of dengue fever in Karangasem Regency can be suppressed and prevent a wider increase in cases. (Ami/BK)
