Amien Rais Says Jokowi Under Pressure Over Diploma Defamation Case

SUARA NEGERI ■ JAKARTA — Chairman of the Ummat Party Advisory Board Amien Rais said former Indonesian President Joko Widodo was under psychological pressure as legal proceedings continue over a defamation case linked to allegations surrounding Widodo's academic diploma.

Speaking in a video posted on the Amien Rais Official YouTube channel on Thursday, Amien claimed Widodo was increasingly concerned as the case involving Roy Suryo and Tifauzia Tyassuma, widely known as Doctor Tifa, moved forward in court.

"If the court summons Roy and Tifa, this is what Jokowi fears most because he may eventually have to appear before the court," Amien said.

Amien also argued that Widodo had not anticipated the diploma controversy would escalate into court proceedings. He further expressed his personal opinion that the former president was facing psychological strain. He did not provide evidence to support the claim.

Jokowi has not publicly responded to Amien's remarks.

Meanwhile, the East Jakarta District Court postponed the initial hearing for Roy Suryo while awaiting the outcome of a pretrial motion filed with the South Jakarta District Court.

A separate initial hearing involving Tifauzia Tyassuma was scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 2. (Jeane Patikawa)
